Remove the bobbin and cut off the extra thread.įor large spools of thread or specialty threads, place the spool on the pin vertically. (I call them Play and Pause since they look like those buttons on my cassette and CD players.) When the bobbin is fully wound, the winder lever should snap to the right. This leads to a clicking noise or jams at the bobbin.) If you use the pause button, press Play to finish winding the bobbin. I sometimes drop the extra thread and it gets wound into the bobbin. (I usually need to press pause but this leads to my mistake. Either cut the excess thread with the thread cutter to the right of the bobbin or with a pair of scissors after a few winds are made. You should see a prompt on the LCD screen press Play. Hold onto this thread and move the bobbin winder lever to the left (towards the bobbin). Then bring the thread through the hole on the top of the bobbin. Bring the thread up from under the presser foot to the thread guide in front of the right side of the spool pin. Place an empty bobbin correct side up (my machine takes the green plastic bobbins with the Husqvarna H symbol up) on the bobbin winding pin. If your thread spool is on the horizontal spindle, make sure that a metal presser foot is installed. The bobbin can jam for a number of reasons. (Make sure that the needle is correctly positioned in the needle holder the groove should face forward.) Then thread the needle so that the thread goes from the front to the back of the needle. Bring the thread back down behind the thread guide above the needle. Then bring the thread up in the next channel and through the slot in the take-up lever. Continue going to the left side of the machine and bring the thread down through the tension discs in the first channel (follow the arrows). For a spool on the spindle that is vertical, bring the thread under the thread guide. The pre-tension guide is on the top of the machine. Then bring the thread down and under the thread guide. If the spindle is horizontal, then bring the thread over and behind the pre-tension guide. At all times move the thread from your right to left as you guide it up and down through the channels/guides.

Make sure that the presser foot is up and the needle is in the highest position. The top thread spool needs to be put on the spindle such that the thread comes off the spool heading to the left. I have a Designer Ruby and I believe that it threads the same way as the Designer Topaz 20. If you haven't reposted this in the correct area, I'll post a solution here. You posted this under the wrong classification.
